What it measures
- IGHV gene mutation status (single clone)
The IGVH (IGHV) mutation test finds out whether the leukaemia cells in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) carry a mutated or unmutated immunoglobulin heavy chain variable (IGHV) gene. The result gives doctors useful information about how the disease may behave and helps guide treatment choices.
What the test looks for
In CLL, the leukaemia cells all come from one original B cell, so they share the same IGHV gene sequence. The lab uses Sanger sequencing to read this gene and compare it with the standard sequence. The report states whether the gene is mutated or unmutated. The test is designed for a single leukaemia clone.
Who might consider it
This test is for people with a confirmed diagnosis of CLL, at the request of their haematologist, usually at diagnosis or before starting treatment. IGHV status does not change over time, so it usually needs to be done only once.
Before you book
The test uses one blood sample. Our team can collect it at your home or office anywhere in Dubai, or you can visit our lab in Al Karama or Al Barsha 1. The lab asks for a signed consent form and your clinical history with the sample, including your diagnosis and recent blood results. Results are usually ready in 15–20 days. You can book it directly, but this test is normally arranged with your haematologist, who will interpret the result.
Understanding your results
The report says whether the IGHV gene is mutated or unmutated. Your haematologist uses this, together with other markers such as TP53 status, to explain the outlook and to choose the most suitable treatment.
Frequently asked questions
How much does the IGVH mutation test cost in Dubai?
AED 2,800, VAT included. Home collection costs AED 150 per visit; there is no extra fee when you visit our lab in Al Karama or Al Barsha 1.
Why is IGHV status important in CLL?
Whether the IGHV gene is mutated or unmutated gives information about how the disease may behave and helps your haematologist choose treatment.
Does the test need to be repeated?
Usually not. IGHV status does not change over time, so it is normally tested once.
What sample is needed and how long do results take?
One blood sample. Results are usually ready in 15–20 days.
